All Russian Aircraft to Get Wi-Fi Onboard

Passengers need to wait a bit: until 2028

Passengers on Russian aircraft will soon be able to use Wi-Fi onboard. This capability will be ubiquitous when Russia deploys its new satellite constellation.

This was reported by the TASS news agency by the Minister of Digital Development of the Russian Federation, Maksut Shadayev, on the sidelines of the CIPR-2024 conference in Nizhny Novgorod, answering a relevant question.

Earlier this year, the head of the Ministry of Digital Development in the State Duma said that at the end of 2024 – beginning of 2025, four Express-RV spacecraft will be launched, which will be used in a highly elliptical orbit. They will be able to provide communication to the Northern Sea Route, marine facilities, and moving objects within the country.

In general, according to him, the first group of Russian communication satellites for use in a highly elliptical orbit of the Internet network will be fully formed and launched in 2026.
