Rosgvardia has developed its own software for conducting cyber exercises and specialized competitions for security professionals. Information about the development of the cyber range appeared in Rospatent.
According to the "Kommersant" newspaper, the "Digital platform for teaching the basics of cybersecurity and conducting competitions" is an intellectual development of the Perm Military Institute of the National Guard of the Russian Federation. It holds the source code of the software and the ability to modernize it; the development has not yet been implemented in other universities.
According to the former advisor to the head of Rosgvardia, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications, Alexander Khinshtein:
- designed to train specialists in the field of IT and information security, in particular, it allows you to learn how to counter hacker attacks;
- created on the basis of open source Linux;
- works with the Rosgvardia operating system, which other licensed products do not allow.
This is the first such software for the security bloc that has become known, and the first software based on a university. Commercial analogues have been operating in Russia for a long time. In particular, these are Positive Technologies (Standoff 365), "RTK Solar" (Solar CyberMir, a structure of Rostelecom).
The National Cyber Range is also already operating in Russia. It includes digital copies of the infrastructures of enterprises with specific equipment similar to the corporate, electric power, oil and gas, and banking segments. In this system, for more than two years, students from a number of large universities in the country have been learning to identify and repel security threats.
