A group of scientists from Novosibirsk State Technical University (NSTU) has developed a device for power supply systems with non-linear loads. It will help improve the quality of electricity and reduce the negative impact of electrical loads on the network.
The device is an electronic voltage converter based on controlled transistors. It is connected to the network in parallel and contains a control system that introduces a compensating effect in the form of current and monitors the behavior of the load. Scientists have already provided a prototype that was tested in laboratory conditions.
GOST standards regulate the quality of electricity, the network must provide a certain voltage level. When we connect loads to it, there are deviations in frequency and voltage amplitude, equipment malfunctions and additional losses of electrical energy are likely, which reduces the efficiency of the entire system. An active power filter will allow us to obtain a power supply system without deviations from GOST.
The peculiarity of the algorithm developed by scientists is that it allows solving the problem not in the entire network, but specifically in the area where a complex non-linear load has arisen. The converter will improve the quality of electrical energy and smooth out the negative impact of electrical loads on the network.
