It became known that launched from the Russian military spaceport Plesetsk "in the interests of the Ministry of Defense" during the last launch of the Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle. In addition to military satellites, three low-orbit domestic satellites of the " рассвет-2" mission produced by "БЮРО 1440" were sent into Earth orbit.
According to the Ministry of Digital Development, this launch brought Russia one step closer to domestic broadband satellite communications.
For the first time in the history of the Russian space industry, devices use the 5G NTN standard to communicate with subscribers. This is the second research mission of the company. The first mission " рассвет-1" was launched on June 27, 2023 and was recognized as completely successful. This time, the satellites were created in a record short time for the space industry — less than 14 months. The satellites of the " рассвет-2" mission are twice as large in mass and size, since more new equipment has been installed. This means that the speed and quality of communication is now even better.
The results of the " рассвет-2" mission are expected in the coming months. However, it is obvious that the indicators should be more favorable than for the first mission: there the communication speed was 48 Mbit/sec, and the delay was 42 ms. This made it possible to make a video call in high quality to several people at once or watch TV in 4K resolution.
The Ministry of Digital Development notes: " рассвет-2" opens the way to the Russian broadband satellite communication service, which will be launched in 2027.
Non-terrestrial networks (NTN), which Russia used in space for the first time, are wireless communication systems that operate above the Earth's surface. They can work for the Internet of Things and for communication between subscribers of various kinds: from sea vessels to rescue services, which will be able to quickly send notifications to people on smartphones in the event of disasters.
NTN covers satellites in low, medium and geostationary near-earth orbit, high-altitude platforms and drones. This allows for full coverage of territories with communication, including in remote regions where there are no traditional terrestrial networks and communication towers.
