New Russian All-Weather Satellite "Obzor-R" No. 1 Preparing for Launch

It will collect digital data about the Earth's surface

RCC Progress has announced the completion of the manufacturing of the new Russian satellite "Obzor-R" No. 1.

According to the head of RCC, which he announced in an interview with RIA Novosti, the launch will take place in the near future. Work has already begun on the creation of the second satellite in this series.

The characteristics of this type of apparatus will allow all-weather, round-the-clock observation of the Earth's surface with high resolution and the advantages that radar technology gives us. This is not just a photograph, it is digital data about the properties of the surface and the objects on it.
Dmitry Baranov, General Director of RCC Progress

The launch of a radar Earth remote sensing spacecraft from another team of satellite builders was also planned into orbit in the second quarter of 2024. This is "Condor-FKA" No. 2.

Earlier it became known that Russia successfully tested the first hyperspectrometer for CubeSats in space. It detects objects on Earth in a multi-channel spectral display that are not visible by other means of observation.
