TOS-1A «Solntsepyok» (produced at the «Omsk Transport Machine-Building Plant») is a heavy flamethrower system that «only Russia has, it worries our enemies». This equipment is constantly being improved taking into account its use in combat conditions, said military expert Alexey Egorov.
Tracks for all our military equipment come out of the oven of the «Omsk Transport Machine-Building Plant». In this sense, the plant is unique. It produces tracks for all tanks, self-propelled artillery units, anti-aircraft missile systems, and, of course, for the legendary heavy flamethrower system «Solntsepyok».
According to Alexander Romanov, chief specialist of the «Omsk Transport Machine-Building Plant», NATO countries have nothing like the «Solntsepyok».
The uniqueness of this machine lies in its thermobaric shells. The characteristics of these shells are strictly classified. But most importantly: nothing living remains when the «Solntsepyok» is working. The coverage area is very large.
He added that the main feature of the TOS-1 «Solntsepyok» is the possibility of quick assembly. In 2023, the plant fulfilled the state defense order for 2024, and now obligations are being fulfilled for the order for 2025.
The combat vehicle is built on the basis of units and assemblies of the T-72A tank. Its oscillating part includes 24 guide tubes of 220 mm caliber (the caliber of the «Uragan» system). Thermobaric shells were developed for this caliber, Romanov summarized.
