В России научились выращивать хрящи для коленного сустава

The technology is used by specialists of the Sechenov Clinical Center

Specialists of the Sechenov Clinical Center have begun to apply a new method of treating the knee joint, which does not require surgical intervention. A patient has cartilage cells taken through a small puncture, from which biomaterial is grown to replace the damaged part of the joint.

According to Vyacheslav Leonov, Head of the Production Department of Biomedical Cell Products at the Sechenov Clinical Center, cultured cells are introduced into the knee with a catheter. One portion of biomaterial can restore up to 6 square centimeters of cartilage.

The cells adhere to the defect area almost immediately, the exposure during the operation does not exceed 15 minutes

Then the patient needs complete rest. Under such conditions, cells begin to multiply, creating an intercellular substance, forming the cartilage itself.

Scientists believe that with this technology it is possible to restore not only knee joints, but also shoulder and hip joints.
