The diesel-electric submarine (DES) "Magadan" of Project 636.3 of the Pacific Fleet successfully completed a deep-sea dive to a depth of 240 meters. This was reported by the press service of the fleet.
It is noted that the submarine's crew conducted ship control at great depths and tested the operation of all systems and mechanisms. The event took place in accordance with the fleet's combat training plan at one of the naval training grounds in the Peter the Great Bay.
The submarine's deep-sea dive was carried out with the participation of the crew of the rescue vessel "Georgy Kozmin". After successfully completing the underwater part of the exercise, the submarine's crew surfaced.
The submarine "Magadan" is the third diesel-electric submarine of Project 636.3 in the Pacific Fleet. The ability to carry high-precision Kalibr cruise missiles makes it an important element in the defense of Russian waters. The submarine is designed to destroy surface ships and vessels, enemy submarines, patrol, guard, reconnaissance, and protect communications in the "near" maritime zone. Submarines of this project are unofficially called "black holes" because they are "difficult to identify, easy to lose, and impossible to find." They are small, fast, and maneuverable, and are considered one of the quietest in their class.
