The Ministry of Defense of Russia explained that it was this evening that it took off from the Kapustin Yar training ground in the Astrakhan region and excited Russians who noticed a strange object in the sky. A test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile was carried out from the training ground.

A combat crew of the Strategic Missile Forces carried out a «successful launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile from a mobile ground-based missile system» from the Kapustin Yar training ground.

This launch was carried out as part of state tests of advanced missile systems, as well as to confirm the stability of missiles in service. The results obtained confirm the high reliability of Russian missiles in ensuring the strategic security of the Russian Federation. The launch objectives have been fully achieved.

Earlier, the defense department stated that Russia plans to conduct 7 launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles in 2024.
