App developers may be required to adapt them to Russian mobile OS

The owner of the Aurora OS is named as the main interested party

Mobile operating system (OS) development companies are discussing with representatives of the Ministry of Digital Development the introduction of requirements for the compatibility of mobile applications from the register of domestic ones. The main interested party in the initiative is Rostelecom, which owns the Aurora mobile OS.

At the same time, the criteria for the "domestic origin" of the mobile OSs themselves are under development. Experts believe that mobile OSs based on Android will not be recognized as such.

What the mobile OS market is waiting for

Dmitry Komissarov, founder of the Strigo Capital venture fund, said that in April additional requirements will be issued to the government decree on the criteria for including software in the register of the Ministry of Digital Development, which affect the issue of OS compatibility. According to him, the discussion of compatibility with mobile OSs is still ongoing.

The Ministry may determine 2-3 OSs with which compatibility must be ensured

Which mobile OSs are included in the register of the Ministry of Digital Development:

  • ОС «Аврора»,
  • Astra Mobile
  • Kaspersky OS
  • Kvadra OS
  • «Ред ОС М»

Alexey Smirnov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bazalt SPO, said that if the requirements are still introduced, then applications developed exclusively for Android will probably disappear from the register of the Ministry of Digital Development. And there are many such applications. At the same time, he expressed a common concern for developers that adapting applications to the Aurora OS will not pay off.

Last year, the Russian operating systems market exceeded 11 billion rubles. The "big three" included Astra Group, Bazalt SPO, Red Soft.

Earlier, the Russian tablet Kvadra_T with the domestic Kvadra OS went on sale.
