Former Volkswagen plant in Kaluga to start assembling Chery

70,000 cars are planned to be produced by the end of the year, but the models are unclear

The former Volkswagen plant in Kaluga will start assembling Chinese Chery crossovers instead of GAC, according to auto expert Sergei Tsyganov. According to him, AGR (Art-Finance LLC), the company that owns the technology site, failed to reach an agreement with the management of Guangzhou Automobile Group on a partnership.

The agreement with GAC regarding Kaluga has not been signed, all the previous months of negotiations have been in vain

According to the source, it is planned to assemble 70,000 Chery cars by the end of 2024. Which models - is still unclear. Tsyganov notes that Chery is already in negotiations with the Russian side.

In addition to Chery, there are also plans for Polo

The Kaluga plant may also produce three thousand Volkswagen Polo sedans. Such plans were previously announced by the Avilon dealership holding, associated with Art-Finance. Auto expert Tsyganov doubted the implementation of this idea, since a year ago the plant tried to assemble 1,700 Polo, but faced a shortage of components.

Many parts and materials are missing - wiring, wheels, body panels, even glue. How can you make 3000, not being able to make 1700 - a mystery.

Recall that if the production of cars in Kaluga starts before the end of 2024, then Avilon will retain the plant.

Www1.ru wrote that the Ministry of Industry and Trade were dissatisfied with the downtime of the enterprise and planned to find a new owner for the production site.
