In the spring of 2024, the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation will submit to the lower house of parliament a bill obligating the American corporation Apple to open its devices for the installation of applications from third-party stores. This was announced by the head of the department, Maksut Shadayev.
This refers to an initiative announced at the end of 2022. At that time, the minister compared it with the Digital Markets Act adopted in the EU. The bill was developed against the backdrop of the removal of "Gosuslugi" and applications of Russian banks, which fell under Western sanctions. from the App Store and Google Play.
The Digital Markets Act will come into force in the EU in March 2024. All applications for Apple devices must be verified and cryptographically signed. Development companies are required to pay royalties to the corporation. At the same time, Apple reserves the right to block the application.
