Pedestrian safety: New traffic lights with an exclamation mark appear in Moscow

The devices will warn of danger on the road

The Moscow Traffic Management Center has begun testing new traffic lights. A special sign on the light panel will warn pedestrians of the danger from an approaching car. This was reported by the city's Department of Transportation.

Previously, the green light was turned on for pedestrians and motorists who planned to make a turn, and the warning was only valid for drivers. At the same time, this was an additional risk factor for pedestrians.

Now, with combined traffic, a silhouette of a car, a pedestrian, and an exclamation mark light up on the traffic light. Testing is underway at the intersection of the 1st passage of Perov Field and Zeleny Prospekt, Sergei Eisenstein Street and Prodolny Proezd, as well as Shirokaya Street and Projected Passage No. 5286.

The head of the Moscow Department of Transportation, Maxim Liksutov, explained that if the experiment is successful, similar traffic lights will be installed in all places with a high risk of accidents. The authorities will continue to introduce new measures to improve the safety of all road users.

In January, Moscow conducted an experiment with a traffic light equipped with a camera, which incorporates a facial recognition system. The device is necessary to record violations by pedestrians.

In addition, Rostec has developed a traffic light signal doubler, which is better visible in adverse weather conditions.
