The Su-57 supersonic fighter, equipped with a new engine, will soon enter service with the Russian Aerospace Forces. This will make the aircraft the fastest in the world, wrote journalists from the Western publication Military Watch, who follow the novelties of the Russian defense industry.
The American F-35 cannot fly at supersonic speeds without the use of afterburner chambers
The use of such chambers quickly burns fuel, which reduces the range of the fighter. However, Russian engineers have found a way for the Su-57 to reach speeds of over Mach 2 without the use of afterburner chambers, the authors of the publication emphasized.
The new power plant will allow the Su-57 to respond quickly to threats and patrol the airspace. The engine has converging and diverging nozzles with toothed flaps, allowing it to reduce its visibility on radars. Thus, the modernized fighter has become even safer for the crew.
Thanks to its unique technical characteristics, pilots call the Su-57 the "falcon" of domestic aviation. The West has repeatedly emphasized that the aircraft surpasses American and Chinese fighters. It is expected that it will be reinforced with a group of mini-drones, which will be placed on an external suspension.
