New intelligent transport systems have appeared on the roads of the Tver region.
According to Schwabe, a subsidiary of Rostec, 42 traffic detectors and 25 photo and video recording systems for traffic violations have appeared on the roads. The same systems have been installed at nine city intersections and three pedestrian crossings in the region.
All these measures are part of the national project "Safe and High-Quality Roads". According to this national project, by 2025, more than 60 traffic lights on the roads of Tver alone will be integrated into a unified automated traffic management system.
The project actively uses the experience of Moscow, where AI controls hundreds of intersections in the city and has been resolving the once legendary Moscow traffic jams for six years.
The intelligent transport system is a completely Russian invention. Since 2018, Schwabe-Moscow has been responsible for its maintenance.
The first elements of the ITS and its software were put into operation in Tver in 2022. The system in Tver - and in Moscow - consists not only of traffic detectors, video cameras, video recorders and traffic light call buttons. Inductive loop detectors are embedded in the road surface itself. All the collected data helps to build complex logical schemes for the movement of vehicles and pedestrians, adapted to the real situation on each complex section of the road.
Thus, when there are no pedestrians, cars on this system can wait for the green light at the traffic light faster. But when pedestrians appear, the call phase is activated faster, activating the red traffic light.
