The Russian government has extended free travel for electric vehicles on toll sections of federal highways until the end of 2024. It was introduced for electric vehicles of Russian and foreign production for ten months of 2023 as an experiment - and it proved successful.
It was also possible to attract business to the development of toll roads: the utilization of charging stations on them doubled. After free travel on toll sections was recognized as a successful step for the development of electric transport in Russia, and it became in demand among car owners, it was decided to extend the benefit.
Now it is provided within the framework of the federal project "Electric Vehicle and Hydrogen Vehicle", which is supervised by First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov.
The experiment started last year on free travel for electric vehicles on toll roads was generally successful: about 5 thousand motorists took advantage of the benefit, they made about 315 thousand trips. The benefit will resume on January 19.
As in 2023, electric vehicle owners need to contact the user support office of Avtodor - Toll Roads LLC for preferential travel and provide documents that prove that the electric vehicle has only an electric motor. Also, the owner of the electric vehicle will need to purchase or rent an electronic means of registering travel on a toll road - a T-pass transponder.
