The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, Denis Manturov, said that the production of the updated "Volga" will begin in Nizhny Novgorod in mid-2024.
According to him, the Nizhny Novgorod automobile cluster (Gorky Automobile Plant, GAZ) will establish the production. The first cars will be assembled with a technology partner, Manturov added. Subsequently, the details and components for the "Volga" will be localized, he concluded.
GAZ-M-21 "Volga" is a legendary Soviet car, serially produced at the GAZ facilities from 1956 to 1970.
Earlier, the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, hinted that the "Volga" brand could be revived in the region. He also noted an increase in car production in 2023 compared to last year's figures.
