The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, Denis Manturov, said that the production of the updated "Volga" will begin in Nizhny Novgorod in mid-2024.
According to him, the Nizhny Novgorod automobile cluster (Gorky Automobile Plant, GAZ) will establish production. The first cars will be assembled with a technology partner, Manturov added. Subsequently, parts and components for the "Volga" will be localized, he summarized.
GAZ-M-21 "Volga" is a legendary Soviet car, mass-produced at GAZ facilities from 1956 to 1970.
Earlier, the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, hinted that the Volga brand could be revived in the region. He also noted an increase in car production in 2023 compared to last year's figures.
