The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA, in cooperation with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration - NASA) reported that a strong X2.8 intensity flare was recorded on the Sun the night before.
It is noted that this is the most powerful energy release in the Sun's atmosphere since the beginning of 2023.
According to the Phobos weather center, flares of this magnitude were last recorded in 2017. Forecasters explained that such astronomical events precede powerful magnetic storms. The next one will hit Earth on Saturday, December 16.
Earlier, www1.ru wrote that magnetic storms provoke the appearance of the Northern Lights. In early November, Aurora borealis could be seen from different parts of Russia, including the south of the country.
