Heavy military transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force Mi-26 manufactured by Rostvertol will undergo major repairs with the participation of specialists from Russia. Details of the cooperation were discussed at a meeting of Russian specialists with Indian colleagues at the base in Chandigarh.
It is specified that Russia and India will sign a corresponding contract in the coming months. The main work will take place in Chandigarh, where Russian mechanical engineers will go. Some units will be dismantled from the Mi-26 and sent for repair to their homeland. It is known that three Mi-26 helicopters of the Indian Air Force are located in Chandigarh.
The aircraft is the most lifting serial helicopter. Mi-26 are needed for the rapid transfer of airborne troops, as well as heavy equipment.
Earlier, the Russian Aerospace Forces received a batch of modified Mi-26T2V helicopters. The aircraft is reliably protected by the onboard Vitebsk defense system.
