Expert Explains Why Russia Faces a Boom in Hacking Attacks in Early 2024

Companies Officially Buy Russian Software, But Use Foreign Software That Is Not Updated

In the first quarter of 2024, Russia is expected to experience a boom in hacking attacks, with their number potentially increasing by 15% by March. This was stated by Dmitry Khomutov, CEO of Ideco, a company that develops information security tools.

Not only the traditionally IT sector and industry may be under the threat of hacking attacks, but also the financial sector, and it is necessary to prepare for strengthening information security now

According to the expert, the reason is the double policy of a number of companies. Officially, to comply with the law, they purchase Russian software, which is quite effective in combating cyber security threats. But in practice, foreign software is used within companies.

It is difficult to say what percentage of the market adheres to this strategy, but it is impossible to deny the obvious trend that has emerged, including among representatives of the financial industry by the end of 2023.

Foreign software, due to sanctions, cannot be updated in time, nor can it be serviced in time. This creates risks for both companies and their clients.
