Russian Post plans to freeze the project of delivering goods by robot couriers from Yandex, launched in 2021 with the support of the Skolkovo Foundation.
At the first stage, rovers delivered parcels within a radius of 2 km from post offices. This service cost recipients 1 ruble.
According to the source, the project was financed with about 24 million rubles per year. The maintenance of robot couriers cost 1 million rubles per month, and another million rubles was spent on renting rovers from Yandex. It turned out that the service could only become liquid if the fleet of robot couriers was increased 4 times.
At the end of 2023, Russian Post's net loss may range from 27 to 38 billion rubles. Management plans to sell some of the company's buildings to pay off accumulated debts. In addition, Russian Post is asking for up to 30 billion rubles from the National Welfare Fund (NWF) for recapitalization.
Earlier, a source reported that Russian Post froze the project of delivering goods in remote areas by helicopter-type drones.
