Russian electronics manufacturers hit by state support

Preferential loans for replenishing stockpiles with foreign electronic components have ended

The Russian preferential loan program for the electronics industry has stalled.

Foreign companies from friendly countries will again face higher costs to replenish their stocks of electronic components.

From 2022, developers and manufacturers of base stations, computers, smartphones and other domestic equipment could use a preferential loan with an interest rate of 1–5% per annum to purchase such components.

However, the program was not suitable for everyone. The minimum loan amount started at 3 billion rubles, and the maximum loan limit was set at 100 billion rubles.

Small-scale manufacturers could not initially participate in such a program, as a loan of 3 billion rubles was excessive for them. But large manufacturers, to whom such conditions were suitable, started to have problems. There are many electronics manufacturers, and the funds for their subsidization have run out. Now their loan rates are market rates: 15–20% per annum.

The Ministry of Digital Development reassures that it has sent a request for additional funding for these purposes from the program for the development of the electronics and radio-electronics industry, taking into account the change in the key rate.

They are also considering extending the preferential loan program for the electronics industry until 2024.
