Engineers from the St. Petersburg Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SPb FRC RAS) have developed an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), which can be used to increase the coverage of cellular communication.

Drone

This UAV is suitable for the work of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry staff and rescue teams in areas where the equipment poorly picks up the signal. Previously, a ground repeater was used for these purposes.

However, such equipment works fine on a plain, but in hilly areas, it works significantly worse. The solution to this problem was proposed by the SPb FRC RAS staff, presenting a drone-repeater.

The new UAV can carry up to 2 kg of payload. Thanks to its lightweight design, the drone can stay in the air twice as long as its analogues. The control system consists of a helmet with a camera and an ergonomic joystick.

Earlier, the engineers at TsKBR came up with how to use combat FPV drones for peaceful purposes. It turns out that drones can detect harmful gas leaks.
