Shout louder: SPbU has developed a drone that will find a lost person by sound

Scientists in Petersburg presented a drone to assist search and rescue

Scientists from the NOC 'Mathematical Robotics and Artificial Intelligence', based on SPbU, presented an unmanned search drone. The drone is capable of finding a lost person by their screams.

The idea to create such a flying device came to the engineers after searching for people using drones equipped with a camera and a thermal imager. It turned out that finding a person is more difficult due to tree branches. Moreover, analyzing video in real time is more difficult than working with sound. With the help of software, it's easy to separate human voice from background noise: wind, water noise.

Several such search drones are expected to sweep the area in squares with an area of 5 km. During the drone's flight, the operator can turn on the siren sound so that the lost person can hear it. Scientists are confident that their development will greatly facilitate the work of professional search and rescue and volunteers.

Earlier, the specialists of the Central Design Bureau presented an FPV drone for use by employees of the Russian Emergency Services and utilities. The drone can scan the atmosphere and detect leaks of harmful substances.
