Night Hunter: characteristics of the Mi-28 attack helicopter revealed

The Russian Ministry of Defense has revealed the capabilities of the Mi-28 attack helicopter

The Mi-28 helicopter ("Night Hunter" or, according to NATO military-political block codification, Havoc — "Devastator" — note from the www1.ru editor) is manufactured by PJSC "Rostvertol" (part of "Russian Helicopters"), and is designed to search for and destroy military equipment in conditions of active fire resistance.

As reported by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Mi-28's prey includes howitzers, air defense systems, BMPs, launchers, and enemy infantry units. Moreover, the "Night Hunter" can strike helicopters, planes, and drones directly in the air.

The Mi-28 pilots use two types of guided missile weapon systems: "air-surface" and "air-air." It is noted that the helicopter crew can also hit targets with a 30 mm caliber gun and aviation missiles. The "Night Hunter" is equipped with tools that help strike in conditions of minimal visibility.

The engineers at PJSC "Rostvertol" have provided additional safety measures for the helicopter crew. Pilots are located in armored capsules, protecting them from enemy fire. The cockpit glass has increased strength, withstanding 12.7 mm caliber bullets. In the event of an emergency landing, a system is triggered in the helicopter that absorbs shock due to a special technology in the chassis.

It was previously reported that the Russian Aerospace Forces have received a batch of Mi-26T2V helicopters. The aircraft is characterized by high payload capacity and the ability to fly in any conditions.
