Night Hunter: Characteristics of the Mi-28 Attack Helicopter Revealed

Russian Ministry of Defense Reveals Capabilities of the Mi-28 Attack Helicopter

The Mi-28 helicopter ("Night Hunter" or, according to the NATO military-political bloc codification, Havoc — editor's note www1.ru) manufactured by PJSC Rostvertol (part of Russian Helicopters), is designed to search and destroy military equipment in conditions of active fire resistance.

According to the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Mi-28's prey includes howitzers, air defense systems, infantry fighting vehicles, launchers, and enemy infantry units. In addition, the "Night Hunter" can hit helicopters, airplanes, and drones directly in the air.

Mi-28 pilots use guided missile systems of two classes: "air-to-surface" and "air-to-air". It is noted that the helicopter crew can also hit targets with a 30 mm cannon and aircraft missiles. The "Night Hunter" is equipped with tools that help strike in conditions of minimal visibility.

Engineers at PJSC Rostvertol have provided additional safety measures for the helicopter crew. The pilots are in armored capsules that protect them from enemy fire. The cockpit glass has increased strength, withstanding hits from 12.7 mm caliber bullets. In the event of an emergency landing, the helicopter activates a system that absorbs the impact through a special technology in the chassis.

Earlier it was reported that the Russian Aerospace Forces received a batch of Mi-26T2V helicopters. The aircraft is distinguished by its high carrying capacity and the ability to fly in any conditions.
