Specialists of the Military Academy of Logistics named after Army General A.V. Khrulev constructed a new armored refueler.
According to TASS News Agency, which obtained a description of the useful model of the patent, the universal tracked platform T-15 "Armata" from Uralvagonzavod served as the base for it.
It is noted that the refueler is protected by multilayer armor made of armored steel with ceramic inserts. When hit, the ceramic elements absorb the energy of the projectile, shatter and thereby affect the movement of the remaining ceramic elements in the plane of the armor. Thus, the axial impact impulse transitions into an impulse in the plane of the armor.
The fuel tank and technological equipment are installed and securely fixed within the armored body, the crew with the control mechanisms has its own armored capsule, and the engine-transmission compartment is beyond a separate armored bulkhead. This design, presumably, will make the armored refueler "extremely survivable even in the case of multiple armor damages".
In the Military Academy of Logistics named after Army General A.V. Khrulev, it is believed that the refueler will be able to operate in areas of active combat operations. And even enter those areas where the enemy uses large-caliber weapons against the Russian Armed Forces or security forces.
