New freezer trawler-fish factory 'Captain Sokolov' tested in the Baltic Sea

The vessel will catch fish and process it into fillet, liver, oil, and meal up to 60 tons per day

The testing of the large freezer trawler-processor 'Captain Sokolov' of project 170701 has been completed in the Baltic Sea. About a hundred representatives of the 'Severnaya Verf', where the vessel is being built, as well as the design bureau 'Nautik Rus', the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, and the customer of the vessel, GK 'Norebo', tracked its performance in various conditions over a about two weeks. This is reported by IA 'Mediapaluba'.

A distinctive feature of the trawler is its bow end called Enduro Bow, which enhances the vessel's seakeeping abilities and workspace onboard.

'Captain Sokolov' is the first of ten vessels planned to be built by 'Norebo' for catching herring, cod, sea bass, and other species of fish in the Far East and North Atlantic. They will process the caught fish on board, and produce from it fillet, liver, fat, and fish meal, which is packaged for further storage.

The fish processing factory 'Captain Sokolov' can produce daily not less than 21 tons of cod and saithe fish fillet, and not less than 7 tons of fish meal, while the total factory’s productivity reaches more than 60 tons per day. This is made possible thanks to the trawler's freezing equipment. In the construction of the trawler, a tunnel keel was used, leaving the freezing hold without hatches.

Among the distinctive features of 'Captain Sokolov' is also an anti-heeling device located under the bridge, which significantly reduces the vessel's roll. Its special bow shape prevents water from flooding the deck, reduces the impact of oncoming waves on the bow end, and reduces hull icing.
