Rosatom has transferred nuclear fuel from Novosibirsk for the Rooppur NPP in Bangladesh

Similar modern and highly efficient fuel is already used at the Leningrad, Novovoronezh and Belarusian NPPs

Rosatom announced that the first batch of nuclear fuel for the future Rooppur NPP has been delivered to Bangladesh. It was manufactured by the Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant. Similar fuel is used in Russia for the Leningrad, Novovoronezh and Belarusian NPPs at VVER-1200 power units.

The second power unit is already under construction at the NPP.<br>

Delivering the dangerous cargo in accordance with all international safety standards was not easy. First, Rosatom needed to obtain a separate license to import fuel into Bangladesh from the nuclear energy regulatory authority for the local Rosatom operating company Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission.

The license concerns the rights to import nuclear materials, their acquisition, possession, handling and storage, and gives the Russian transport company the right to transport nuclear materials through the territory of Bangladesh.

Then it was necessary to pass an acceptance commission at the plant in Novosibirsk, where the customer checked the modernity and efficiency of the products. After that, the process of shipment and delivery of the first batch of fuel began. There will be six more such deliveries by the end of November 2023.
