In August of this year, Russian Chery dealers sold 13,412 cars, which is 4.5 times higher than last year's figures. This confirms Chery's status as a leader among foreign automakers in the Russian market. Over eight months of 2023, 71,323 Chery cars were sold in Russia, which is 3.9 times more than in the same period last year. The Chinese brand's market share for the reporting period was 11.8%, compared to 4.3% in the previous year. This data is provided by the AUTOSTAT agency, taking into account the data of JSC "PPK" and its own analysis.
The best-selling Chery in Russia in August was the Tiggo 7 PRO Max crossover, with 6,092 cars sold. In second place is the compact Chery Tiggo 4 PRO crossover, which found 3,080 buyers. Rounding out the top three is the all-wheel drive seven-seater Chery Tiggo 8 PRO Max SUV, sold in 1,575 units, which is significantly higher than the previous year's result, where only 295 cars were sold.
As a reminder, at the end of August this year, Russian Chery dealers started selling the updated Chery Tiggo 8 PRO Max crossover. This novelty is presented in two trim levels – Dreamline and Ultimate – at a price of 4,459,900 rubles and 4,650,900 rubles, respectively.
Chery has long planned to start assembling its cars in Russia, but it remained a mystery and a cause for rumors at which plant the production would be localized. At the end of August, information about the plant in Kaluga was confirmed by an auto expert.
Chery cars will be assembled at the former Volkswagen plant in Kaluga (now AGR). But modestly: so far, a batch of only 120 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max cars is being discussed. The assembly will be large-unit, and it is scheduled for the end of autumn.
