At the MIMS Automobility Moscow 2023 exhibition, which opened today in the capital, the Iranian company Saipa announced plans to start production of their own cars in Russia. So far, we are talking about two models – these are sedans Shahin and P90.
Saipa Shahin is built on the Toyota B platform of the second generation Toyota Yaris (the car was launched in 2005) and is equipped with a 112-horsepower 1.5-liter engine.
Saipa P90 is a modernized first-generation Renault Logan, which has already been assembled in Russia and has long been discontinued. This model is equipped with a 1.6-liter engine with a capacity of 115 hp, a mechanical gearbox or a 6-speed Chinese automatic transmission.
Saipa intends to assemble at one of the former Renault-Nissan sites, but which one exactly is unknown.
Experts believe that Saipa cars can gain a foothold in the Russian market, but only if the prices are reasonable.
