The head of Aeroflot, Sergei Alexandrovsky, said that the company is negotiating with foreign lessors on "insurance settlement" for 47 Airbus and Boeing aircraft under operating lease.
«The process [of buying out aircraft] turned out to be a little more complicated and longer than we expected. At the same time, we are moving quite actively on insurance settlement with lessors, with about 47 aircraft in operation. The process is in a fairly active phase, I won’t say anything more, because lessors are very sensitive to this issue,» Alexandrovsky said.
According to the head of Aeroflot, these aircraft will ultimately become the property of a specially created leasing company, in favor of which Aeroflot will make lease payments. The buyout will be financed by the National Welfare Fund.
In total, the Aeroflot Group's fleet (including its subsidiaries Pobeda and Rossiya) currently has 346 aircraft. The purchase of aircraft will bring this number to almost 400.
