Russian military pilots may receive PP-2000 submachine gun instead of shortened Kalashnikov automatic gun

PP-2000 will be included in the pilots' portable emergency reserve

The High Precision Systems holding (a part of the Rostec) announced the transfer of a batch of PP-2000 submachine guns to the Aerospace Forces of the Russian Federation for experimental operation. It is assumed that the PP-2000 could replace the shortened AKS-74U Kalashnikov assault rifle in the portable emergency reserve of military pilots.

"At present 9х19 mm submachine gun PP-2000 is undergoing experimental operation in the Russian Aerospace Forces (RF), based on the results of which a decision will be made to replace the AKS-74U with a PP-2000 submachine gun", - was told in the High Precision Systems.

The advantages of the PP-2000 over the AKS-74U are significantly smaller size and weight (the PP-2000 is one of the lightest in the world, the weight without a magazine and buttstock is 1.4 kg). It was developed by the KB instrumentation for the 9x19 "Parabellum" cartridge. The length of the weapon is 582 mm with an unfolded buttstock and 350 mm without a buttstock. For comparison, the length of the AKS-74U with a folded buttstock is 730 mm, with an unfolded one – 490 mm.
