Russian cosmonauts on the ISS participate in a project to create new alloys for industry

This project is called "Peritectics"

Roscosmos reported on the experiments that Russian astronauts are conducting on the ISS as part of the "Peritectics" project. Its goal is to create new alloys for industry.

As reported by the Russian space agency, on special scientific equipment (in this role, the furnace for electromagnetic levitation melting and crystallization in a variable electromagnetic field is used), peritectic alloy samples are heated, maintained, and then cooled. The results of the experiment will be applied on Earth: in engineering, and metallurgy.

Peritectic alloys are among the most widely used materials in industrial manufacturing.
