A major dealer, Avilon, was allowed to buy the Russian Volkswagen plant, which, according to rumors, will produce Chery and Exeed cars. Chery itself has confirmed these rumors to some extent. Chery International President Zhang Guibing said that the company is exploring the possibilities of production sites in order to choose the best solution for the localization project in Russia. And what could be better than a large and modern factory built by Volkswagen?
At the same time, the head of Chery International noted that the company is considering different options: it could be either its own company or a factory on a partnership basis. The second option just describes the situation with Avilon.
According to the analytical agency Autostat, in the first quarter of this year, 20,388 Chery cars were sold in Russia, 2.7 times more than in the first quarter of 2022. This significant increase in sales has made Chery the leader among all foreign car manufacturers represented in the Russian Federation.
