First domestic 5G base station created in Russia. 100 units to be produced by the end of 2023

The peak data transfer rate using this station reaches 1.4 Gbps

The NTI Fund announced the first domestic 5G base station – it was developed at the Skoltech Institute with the support of the NTI Fund as part of the Digital Economy state program, curated by the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation. The device (hardware and software complex) was created for more than three years, costing 342 million rubles. By the end of 2023, it is planned to assemble 100 such base stations.

The developers say that in terms of its characteristics, it is comparable to foreign models: the 4.4-4.99 GHz range is supported, and the peak data transfer rate reaches 1.4 Gbps.

«Thanks to the modular design of the base station and support for modern functionality, the development has export potential. Several friendly countries have already expressed interest in the project», – said the NTI Fund.

«Last year, the solution successfully passed comprehensive testing in an independent laboratory with the participation of three operators of the "big four" under the control of the "Open Network Technologies" association. Negotiations are currently underway with market players to deploy 5G pilot zones based on the development. The launch of projects is scheduled for 2023-2024», – added the NTI Fund.

Earlier, the Ministry of Digital Development planned to conduct pilot testing of 5G networks on Russian base stations in cities with a population of over one million in 2025.
