Developed by specialists at NPO Almaz, the S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) is one of the most effective in the world. The Russian SAM system surpasses the air defense systems of the United States and Europe, writes Army Recognition.
The S-400 is capable of simultaneously engaging up to 80 aerial targets, intercepting aircraft and missiles at a range of up to 400 km, and neutralizing medium-range ballistic missiles launched from a distance of up to 3,500 km.
The author of Army Recognition emphasized that the "Triumph" is distinguished by its mobility and high deployment speed.
The American Patriot PAC-3 MSE SAM system is effective against short-range ballistic targets. The complex engages aircraft at a distance of up to 160 km, but cannot intercept medium-range ballistic missiles. The SAM system is equipped with a sector scanning radar, which limits situational awareness.
The article also compares the S-400 with the European SAMP/T NG SAM system, equipped with the Aster 30 Block 1 NT missile. The Franco-Italian development is well suited for intercepting maneuvering targets. However, the complex is inferior to the Russian "Triumph" in terms of engagement range.
According to the author of Army Recognition, the S-400 is a universal air defense system. The complex is autonomous and does not need the support of other SAM systems.
