Defensa: Algeria to Purchase BK-16E Boats from Kalashnikov Concern

Military Expert Ribeiro: Russian High-Speed Landing Craft are Analogous to Swedish Combat Boat 90

Algerian authorities will purchase at least 5 BK-16E high-speed transport and landing craft from the Russian Kalashnikov Concern for the country's Navy. This is according to Defensa.

BK-16E Boat

Military expert Alex Ribeiro claims to have found information on one of the procurement platforms about a tender for the supply of 5 radio navigation systems for the BK-16E. However, there has been no official confirmation from the authorities of Algeria and Russia.

The BK-16E boat is an export version of the BK-16 (Project 02510 Afalina), which is built at the Rybinsk Shipyard (part of the Kalashnikov Concern). The boat is called an analogue of the Swedish Combat Boat 90 (CB90), designed for operation in coastal, river and port conditions.

BK-16E Boat Characteristics:

  • Displacement — 26.61 t
  • Length — 18 m
  • Width — 4.08 m
  • Height — 5.7 m
  • Draft — 0.9 m
  • Speed — 45 knots
  • Engine power — 2 by 1200 hp
A feature of the BK-16E boat design is its modularity, which allows it to be equipped with a wide range of weapons depending on the tasks to be solved. The high-speed vessel can be armed with 12.7-mm Kord machine guns, 40-mm automatic grenade launchers, and also install the Kornet anti-tank missile system.
