Despite Western sanctions from Europe and the United States, Russia has created a rapidly growing base for the production of UAVs in a short time. Focusing on inexpensive but effective designs, Russia has increased the production of a wide range of drones, including loitering munitions, FPV drones, fiber-optic UAVs, unmanned boats, and ground robotic platforms. This is according to Defence blog.
Particular successes have been achieved in the production of inexpensive tactical-level strike systems with a range of 20 to 50 kilometers, such as the Lancet, Molniya, and Prince Vandal Novgorodsky, as well as strategic-level systems with a range of 500 kilometers or more. These include the Geran and Harpy.
Military expert Samuel Bendett stated that the quality of drones developed in Russia has noticeably improved. However, some problems have not yet been resolved.
There remains a dependence on components from China. In addition, drone operators have different levels of training. There is no constant quality control of UAVs that reach the military.
According to him, Russian defense industry enterprises are producing more and more tactical quadcopters, including those with fiber-optic control. Startups and small companies have increased the production of FPV drones. Against this background, UAV supplies to the Russian troops are growing.
