"Chronic Nearsightedness": The Main Problem of the Russian Navy Warships Named

Military Expert Marzhetsky: The Russian Fleet Needs a Developed Global Satellite System for Naval Intelligence

The warships of the Russian Navy cannot conduct naval combat with an enemy of the level of the NATO Navy due to "chronic nearsightedness." Our ships do not have the ability to launch missiles to strike dynamically moving targets, as well as adjust their flight in real time. This opinion was expressed by military expert Sergei Marzhetsky.

If it is necessary to hit a stationary ground target at pre-known coordinates, then the missile will hit where it needs to. But what to do if it is an American aircraft carrier moving at a speed of 30 knots somewhere beyond the horizon?
Sergei Marzhetsky, military expert

Marzhetsky explained that the US Navy has several sources of intelligence data. This is a satellite system, AWACS (airborne warning and control system) aircraft on aircraft carriers, as well as RQ-4 Global Hawk-type reconnaissance drones.

According to the expert, the naval aviation of the Russian Navy does not have a single AEW&C (airborne early warning and control) aircraft. From 1978 to 2006, the fleet used the global satellite naval space reconnaissance and target designation system "Legenda".

The "Liana" system was developed to replace it, which should consist of 7 satellites with active and passive reconnaissance devices. 4 "Lotos-S1" satellites were launched into orbit from 2014 to 2021. Another "Pion-NKS" device was sent into space in 2021.

The second satellite has not yet been launched, and therefore "Liana" cannot be considered fully completed.
Sergei Marzhetsky, military expert

Marzhetsky expressed confidence that the strike potential of the Russian Navy "cannot be fully realized" without an aerospace component.
