The Indian authorities are considering the purchase of additional S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile systems (SAMs), as well as a new generation S-500 Prometheus air defense system of Russian production. This is written by the Indian Defence Research Wing (IDRW).
The author of the publication claims that Moscow is interested in concluding this deal.
Russia is seeking to offer the S-500 under a technology transfer and joint production agreement in India. This will allow India to sell the S-500 to other potential customers, circumventing economic sanctions.
Russia can also establish licensed production of critical components for the S-500, including radars, interceptors and control systems.
As a reminder, the Indian Armed Forces began adopting the S-400 in December 2021. The complexes were deployed along the western and northern borders. They have already "proven their effectiveness against the aircraft of the Pakistan Air Force and Chinese \"stealth\" fighters", the author noted.
The S-400 is called Sudarshan Chakra ("rotating fire disk"), which is one of the symbols of the god Vishnu. The air defense system played an important role in the fight against the JF-17 Block III and J-10CE with PL-15E missiles of the Pakistan Air Force in May 2025.
