Army Recognition sources: Iran tests Russian S-400 Triumf SAM system for the first time

Increased radiation on radars in the Isfahan area indirectly confirms the exercises

On July 26, Iranian military personnel tested the Russian S-400 Triumf anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) for the first time in the Isfahan region. This was reported by Army Recognition, citing sources.

The tests likely involved a battery of S-400 SAM systems, including a combat control center (CCC), radar complex (RLC), launchers, and transport-loading vehicles.

The author of Army Recognition claims that the SAM system was equipped with 48N6E3 anti-aircraft guided missiles capable of intercepting a wide range of aerial threats.

Sources in Isfahan report an increase in radiation on radars, which indirectly indicates military exercises (in which radar systems are used to detect, track, and classify targets, as well as to simulate combat operations).

Military analysts in the region call this the first test of the S-400 SAM system. However, as the author of Army Recognition emphasizes, the Iranian Ministry of Defense has not published any video footage. There has also been no official confirmation.

If the test data is correct, then "Iran will be among the select countries operating the most advanced Russian air defense system," the journalist summarized.

In 2016, Russia supplied Iran with S-300 air defense systems, Rostec reported. Tehran paid Moscow about $1 billion for the supply of the complexes. Negotiations on the transfer of the S-400 SAM system were not conducted.

S-400 characteristics:

  • Range of destruction: up to 400 km for aerodynamic targets and up to 60 km for ballistic missiles
  • Altitude of destruction: up to 30 km
  • Speed of targets hit: up to 4800 m/s
  • Number of targets fired at simultaneously: up to 36
  • Number of missiles guided simultaneously: up to 72
  • Target detection range: up to 600 km.
