Построили более 300 подлодок и собрали почти 13 тысяч танков Т-34: легендарному заводу «Красное Сормово» — 176 лет

Nizhny Novgorod shipbuilders were the first to launch an open-hearth furnace and switch to electric welding

The first open-hearth furnace, diesel-electric ship, and hydrofoil ship in Russia appeared at the Krasnoye Sormovo plant (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation). The Nizhny Novgorod enterprise, which is called the "pioneer" of Russian industry, turns 176 years old on July 21.

In 1858, the plant became the first in creating a river technical fleet: the enterprise built the first steam dredger on the Volga. In 1871, Sormovo shipbuilders started the "double-deck" shipbuilding in Russia — the appearance of the "Perevorot" steamboat with a two-story superstructure caused a real sensation.

In the 30s, the Nizhny Novgorod residents were the first to switch to electric welding, abandoning riveting. They began to manufacture all-welded ship hulls.

It was here that the first diesel submarine "Komsomolets" of the "Shchuka" III series project was built. From 1930 to 2005, Krasnoye Sormovo handed over more than 300 combat submarines to the Russian Navy, including 26 nuclear ones. The plant produced rescue underwater vehicles of project 1837 "Priz" and "Bester".

Krasnoye Sormovo made a significant contribution to our country's Victory over Nazi Germany, supplying the army with legendary T-34 tanks (about 13 thousand).
