Iran is preparing to supply Russia with launchers for short-range (120 km) tactical missiles Fath-360. This was reported by Reuters, citing two Western security officials.
According to the agency, Russia had previously received a batch of Iranian Fath-360 missiles.
In September last year, the United States stated that Iran had delivered missiles to the Russian Federation on nine ships sailing under the Russian flag. Three sources told Reuters that the launchers were not included.
Fabian Hinz, a research fellow at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), said that it does not take long to prepare Fath-360 launchers for a strike.
Other analysts believe that the deployment of Fath-360 will allow the Russian Armed Forces to reserve more modern missiles such as the Iskander for other purposes.
Operating Fath-360 missiles does not require serious training.
Savelsberg emphasized that Fath-360 "are not very accurate and do not carry a large payload." However, Russia, according to the expert, needs Iranian missiles because it cannot produce the required amount of its own ammunition.
The Permanent Mission of Iran to the UN rejected "baseless accusations" against Tehran regarding arms supplies. Russian authorities have also not confirmed this information.
