"Time Bomb": How to Properly Care for Car Tires to Avoid Blowouts on the Road

Saving on tires is a threat to the life of the driver and other road users

Tires are the only part of the car that comes into contact with the road. Their condition significantly affects safety, handling and fuel consumption.

Tire pressure and overheating

When transitioning from cold to warm weather, tire pressure increases. If you add heat from movement and high speed, it can become critical. An overinflated tire is a risk of explosion.

Rubber aging and metal cord wear

Rubber loses its elasticity over time, microcracks appear, and the metal cord inside the tire wears out. Old tires can suddenly burst while driving.

Sidewall damage and hernias

Impacts on curbs, potholes or sharp objects can damage the tire carcass.

Even a small "hernia" is a time bomb.

Such a tire can suddenly rupture.

Tread depth and aquaplaning

The minimum allowable tread depth is 1.6 mm. But already at 3 mm, the grip on a wet road noticeably deteriorates. Worn tires increase braking distance and increase the risk of aquaplaning.

What to do?

Check tire pressure regularly.
Inspect them for cuts, cracks and bulges.
Replace tires if they are more than five years old, even if the tread is still in good condition.
Do not overload the car and avoid sudden impacts.

Remember: saving on tires is a risk to your life and the lives of other road users!
