Russia is allegedly developing weapons that could be used in the first space war with the West. It is about the "anti-satellite" missile of the anti-missile defense (ABM) system A-235 "Nudol". This unsubstantiated statement was made by Victoria Samson, Director of Space Security at Secure World Foundation, in an interview with Forbes.
Samson did not rule out that the Russians could equip the Nudol with a nuclear warhead, and theoretically the missile would be able to hit a SpaceX satellite. At the same time, she stressed that she cannot yet prove her words.
This may seem like science fiction. In 2024, the White House reported that US intelligence had discovered a top-secret Russian project to produce a nuclear spacecraft. It was alleged that its target was Western satellites in low Earth orbit.
Russia has long used electronic warfare equipment. A leak of classified documents in the United States indicates that Russia used at least three Tobol installations to disrupt the signal from Starlink.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stressed that Moscow opposes the militarization of space. According to him, a number of countries are developing modern space systems for military and dual purposes. At the same time, the United States "openly considers outer space as a theater of military operations", the head of state said. With this in mind, Russia is strengthening its orbital group and the rocket and space industry, Putin added.
