A photo of the T-90M "Proryv" main battle tank with the "Arena-M" active protection system (APS) has been circulating online. Analyst and military expert Evgeny Damantsev discussed which objects the system will be able to intercept.
According to him, this version of the system has an aperture of six paired transmitting and receiving modules of the centimeter X-band waves distributed along the contour of the turret.
They are designed to detect approaching anti-tank guided missiles (BGM-71F, "Stugna-P", "Milan-2T"), APKWS-II multi-purpose tactical missiles, and also, probably, FPV kamikaze drones.
In the latter case, the system should receive appropriate software and hardware updates to track low-speed targets.
The maximum speed of targets tracked and engaged by "Arena-M" reaches 1.2 km/s. It is not yet known whether the elevation angle of the beam in the radar guidance system has been increased from 20 to 80 degrees to intercept diving air attack weapons, including FGM-148E guided missiles and diving FPV drones.
An expert from the Telegram channel "Military Informant" also added that at the current stage of development of threats to armored vehicles, an active protection system is already needed primarily for protection against drones; a classic APS for defense against ATGMs and RPGs was relevant several years ago.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that protective hangars for military aircraft were spotted at a Russian Aerospace Forces airbase.
