Russia has developed an improved BTR-82AT armored personnel carrier with enhanced armor protection. Military expert Evgeny Damantsev noted that the combat vehicle lost its amphibious capabilities due to the increase in weight.
According to him, the BTR-82AT received a set of combined lattice screens.
Area of protected hull projections: front - 90%, turret - 60%, side - 80%, rear - 80%. The weight of the anti-drone kit is 1000 kg. The total weight of the vehicle has increased to 17.2 tons, which deprived it of its amphibious qualities.
The analyst noted that the vehicle is equipped with a new sighting system, which allows the crew to detect targets around the clock at a distance of up to 3 km. The BTR-82AT is also equipped with an independent line of sight with stabilization, a rangefinder, and a thermal imager with the ability to capture and track objects.
The eight-wheeled armored personnel carrier is designed for 10 people and can accelerate on the highway up to 80 km/h thanks to a 330 hp diesel engine.
The improved BTR is armed with a 30 mm 2A72 cannon and can withstand the impact of B-32 armor-piercing bullets.
