The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) have received upgraded Su-25SM3 attack aircraft. Military expert Evgeny Damantsev revealed the potential of the latest combat equipment.
According to the analyst, the "core" of the Su-25SM3 weapon control system is the SOLT-25 optoelectronic sighting and observation complex (optical laser thermal imaging system). The complex has the ability of 16x magnification and automatic tracking of a moving target at a distance of approximately 6-8 km with an accuracy of up to half a meter.
SOLT-25 consists of eight functional modules and devices, including a gyroscopic stabilization and aiming line of sight system, television and thermal imaging channels with the possibility of double magnification.
The laser rangefinder of the system measures the distance to the target and determines its coordinates. The system also projects a special spot onto enemy objects, which is "seen" by the homing heads of high-precision missiles and bombs.
The Su-25SM3 aircraft is a modernized version of the Su-25, an armored subsonic attack aircraft. The aircraft is capable of destroying small ground objects and aerial targets at any time of the day.
The Su-25SM3 is the same flying "tank" as the ordinary Su-25 was. It has good armor, two engines and, more recently, a complex of modern weapons. Indispensable in working on the front line.
The attack aircraft's armament includes a 30-mm twin-barreled GSh-30-2 cannon, up to 8 laser-guided bombs, R-60, R-27R, R-73 and R-77 air-to-air missiles.
