The issue of insufficient counter-battery potential of the Russian 152-mm artillery at a range of more than 33 km may be resolved by the start of serial production and supply to combat units of multi-purpose tactical missiles of the "Hermes" and "Hermes-A" family. They are designed for integration into control systems fire of Ka-52 attack helicopters, as well as use from ground launchers (PU) of the same name "Hermes" complexes.
Military analyst Evgeny Damantsev noted that the missile for "Hermes" was made using architectural solutions of ammunition for the Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile and gun complex (ZRPK).
It is difficult to intercept the Hermes missile using NASAMS or IRIS-T SLM air defense systems. The diameter of the sustainer stage is 130 mm with a length of 1.5 m and wide use of composite materials suggests an effective area scattering of ammunition in the front hemisphere is no more than 0.007 - 0.01 m².
The range of the missile launched from a ground launcher is approximately 45-50 kilometers. From an air platform, it can reach up to 100 kilometers, depending on the launch altitude.
Characteristics of the Hermes missile:
- Maximum range — 100 km
- Maximum flight speed — 1300 m/s
- Warhead type — high-explosive fragmentation
- Missile weight in container — no more than 130 kg
- Container length with missile — 3500 mm
- Warhead weight — 29 kg
