The start of serial production of the modernized long-range Il-96-400M aircraft will open new horizons for passenger and cargo transportation of Russian civil aviation. This was pointed out by military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
The aircraft is designed for commercial air transportation, as well as military transport aviation and auxiliary dual-purpose aviation - as aerial tankers and military transport aircraft.
One of the important advantages of the machine is the use of new economical PS-90A1 engines with a thrust of 17 tons. This made it possible to increase the aircraft's carrying capacity.
The number of passengers carried has increased to 370 people, for this the fuselage of the aircraft was lengthened by 9.65 m. Unlike the earlier Il-96-300, the new airliner has an operational ceiling of up to 13,100 m, which reduces fuel consumption when flying long distances. At the same time, the range of the new machine, depending on the take-off weight, can reach 10,000 - 13,000 km.
The Russian Ministry of Defense may also become a customer of the Il-96-400M, since the characteristics of the machine provide the possibility of using it as a tanker aircraft or an airborne command post, replacing aircraft such as the Il-86VKP.
The aircraft can have cargo, as well as one-, two- and three-class layouts, equipped with an information and entertainment system with access to the Internet, satellite communications and television, modern buffet and kitchen equipment.
Created from Russian components, the updated navigation system of the aircraft meets international requirements. It is noted that its use will simplify the landing process and improve flight safety.
